A Pitch to Planners By Randy Rollinson
People who choose strategic planning and management as their vocation share a significant professional responsibility. Our role in the end comes down to facilitating a positive and tangible difference for the people, businesses, and institutions we serve.
I make this statement with a keen recognition that organizational leaders are often more comfortable reacting to the environment around them rather shaping the future ahead. As planners we fight this dynamic each day and it can often be a lonely and significant challenge on how best to proceed.
It is because of this challenge that I’m very happy to report that something exciting is happening in the strategic planning and management field here in Chicago and around the country. A relatively new organization is taking root specifically focused on strengthening the application of state-of-the-art strategic planning and management best practices. The Association for Strategic Planning is a dynamic non-profit professional society whose mission is to enable people and organizations to succeed through improved strategic thinking, planning, and action. http://www.strategyplus.org/chapters/Chicago.php
